[Note: This post was an April Fool’s joke!]
I regret to announce that this blog is in jeopardy of being shut down due to pending legal action.
On the afternoon of Friday, March 29, I received a letter from the law firm of Zuckercorn & Loblaw, LLP. The attorneys informed me that the name “Canadian Couch Potato” is owned by an Ontario corporation that is threatening to sue for trademark infringement. According to the letter: “You can avoid legal action by immediately ceasing and desisting from any and all infringing activity including use of the canadiancouchpotato.com domain.”
The letter gives me seven (7) days to decide on a course of action, and I am currently seeking counsel from my own attorney before determining how to proceed. Rest assured I will not give in unless I have no other choice.

This is no time to be passive. It’ll be a bit of a gambit, but I think you need to get off your couch and launch a derivative action (wait, the government just stopped that in their recent budget). Anyway, I think they’re just trying to stir the pot with the result being it’s just going to be a mish-mash. Eventually they’ll likely just sit back and look at their index finger and realize that doing nothing is the best strategy.
Anyway, I think most of us will track this story quite closely.

I think I will be taking a closer look at DIY couch poato investing, as I received notice today that my favorite fund firm, Steadyhand, has been bought out by the banks. They also mentioned that their ‘fee rebate’ program will be under review. Sigh.

I bought a couch from them last month to replace my bed (having moved into a small apartment) and since that time I cannot sleep anymore. There is something in the material used to make that couch that activates my skin and makes me turn from side to side all night long.
I think I will sue them for false advertising!

My sincere sympathies, CCP, on your legal difficulies. Sounds like you need some legal advice.
Surely you could modify you name slightly and register it to make it legal? It’s not your fault that they don’t call themselves CCP Furniture Distributors, but just simply CCP Distributors!
Have a contest if you like, but I’d suggest CCP Index Investing (Advice/News/Research, etc.); CCP Passive Investing (Advice), CCP Investment Blog, etc. Search & register a business name here: http://www.ontario.ca/serviceontario
Then I’d buy two German footstools from these folks and call one US$ and the other CDN$ and switch between the two depending on prevailing exchange rates for the day.
